Since 1999, financial assistance provided through the Local 103 Scholarship Program has increased from $3,000 per year to $71,000 every year!
The commitment and focus that Local 103 has brought to its industry training offerings has led to recognition from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, who has recognized Local 103 as one of the top three Locals in the nation in offering continuing education for its Journeymen.
Mike Monahan has worked hard to increase scholarship opportunities for Local 103 members and their families. These financial assistance options currently include:
Local 103 Scholarship Program
$5,000 general higher education scholarship presented to four sons and four daughters of Local 103 members for a total of $40,000 in Local 103 direct scholarships per year.
Curry College Scholarships
Curry College currently provides one $20,000 four year scholarship ($5,000 per year) per year to a son or daughter of a Local 103 member.
Continuing Education Scholarships
Curry College also provides 10 Continuing Education Scholarships every year to a Local 103 member or an immediate relative of a Local 103 member. At a total of $850 per class for ten students, this program amounts to an additional $8500 per year to members and their families.
Kaplan Program Scholarships
Local 103, IBEW, offers SAT Tutoring through Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions at no cost to college—bound children of Local 103 members. Four classes are offered per year at a value of more than $650 each per session. To date, more than 180 members’ children have participated in this program. According to Kaplan, these students have achieved significantly higher scores on their SAT Exams.
